Biography
Reinier Wink is a New York-based cellist and graduate of The Juilliard School. Originally from the Netherlands, he was introduced to the cello at the age of five when his mother, cellist Nicoline Jansen, placed one in his hands for the first time.
At fourteen, he recorded Bach’s Third Cello Suite for the Netherlands Bach Society’s All of Bach project, an experience that sparked his lasting interest in historically informed performance alongside modern cello playing.
He has since performed extensively in the Netherlands and North America, including at the Young Talent Gala with the Residentie Orchestra in the Concertgebouw’s Main Hall in Amsterdam.
At the heart of Reinier’s artistry is a desire to bring inspiration and joy to others. He views the cello as an extension of his own voice, allowing him to communicate emotions and ideas beyond the limits of words.
Throughout the years, Reinier has received several prizes in music competitions. In 2015, he won first prize at the Royal Concertgebouw Concours, the Britten Cello Concours, and the Princess Christina Concours. In 2017, he became a laureate of Classic Young Masters. In October 2020, at the age of seventeen, Reinier was the youngest participant in the prestigious National Cello Concours in Amsterdam, where he received the Incentive Prize. Most recently, in 2026, he was named a laureate of the Valley of the Moon Music Festival in California.
At the age of ten, Reinier gained acceptance into the Royal Conservatoire’s Young Talent Program in The Hague, the Netherlands, where he studied under the guidance of renowned cellist Lucia Swarts. In 2022, he moved to New York to pursue a Bachelor of Music in Cello at The Juilliard School under the tutelage of Joel Krosnick. He graduated cum laude in 2026 and was accepted to continue his studies at Juilliard as a Master of Music student under Astrid Schween.
Reinier has also participated in masterclasses and received lessons from distinguished musicians including Anner Bylsma, Harro Ruijsenaars, Marcio Carneiro, Raphael Pidoux, Tanya Tomkins, Eric Zivian, Frans Helmerson, Laurie Smuckler, Samuel Rhodes, Richard Aaron, and Natasha Brofsky.
Reinier plays two rare instruments built by Dutch luthiers. He plays a cello from the Dutch Musical Instruments Foundation, built by Johannes Theodorus Cuypers in 1771. He also owns a cello built in 1705 by Pieter Rombouts, which was previously played by Lucia Swarts.
